Layout of the VHC unit with chiller.

Gas-vapor mixture is delivered from top of the vacuum column K-10 to the precondensers Ò-35/1,2,3 where cooling of the flow and condensation of main part of water and hydrocarbon
vapor take place. Hydrocarbon and water condensate being formed in the precondensers is moved by gravity to the barometric vessel E-34, and gas mixture is evacuated from the precondensers
by VHC unit consisting of the liquid-gas jet device B-1/1,2, the separator C-1, the heat exchanger X-80/1,2 and the motive liquid pump H-80/1,2. Water distillate which circulates along the
closed loop and is cooled by the chiller X-70/1,2, serves as a coolant in the precondensers Ò-35/1,2,3. Usage of the chiller X-70/1,2 makes possible to apply closed circuit of cooled water distillate
which is delivered to the precondensers Ò-35/1,2,3. This allows to exclude influence of season weather conditions changes (oscillations of cooling circulating water temperature) on both unit
operation and the column K-10 pressure. Besides, when chilled water condensate is fed to the precondensers Ò-35/1,2,3, there is no salt deposition at its heat transfer surfaces and therefore
heat transfer efficiency does not reduce.
Higher economical profit can be achieved by using absorbing bromine lithium chillers (ABLC) which provide chilling by utilization of low potential (low temperature) heat instead of electrical power
consumed by compressor chillers. Energy source of ABLC can be low potential (low temperature) steam or hot water or other sources of low potential heat which is not used at refinery. As
contrasted with traditional steam jet ejector vacuum pumps, there is no contact between steam and gas-vapor mixture, pumped from vacuum column, when using ABLC. Therefore water steam
condensate generated at chiller outlet is not polluted by hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide and does not require any threatment. For example, this condensate can be delivered again in steam
generator and after that returned in ABLC as a steam.
To generate steam from condensate which circulates along closed loop, heat of hot products of crude distillation column or residuum vacuum column can be used. Also it is possible to use heat
of column reflux streams that is discharged to environment.
